There's a first time for everything!

Here's a short clip of Jake Parker talking about illustrating his very first children's book, The Astonishing Secret of Awesome Man!

He first landed the book project back in 2009. At the time, he was working primarily in animation and comics, and was just starting to make the shift to children’s book illustration.

There was a whole lot he didn't know about illustrating children’s books back then! Even the basic details of how to size a book were totally confusing.

Jake has since gone on to illustrate more than 15 children’s books with various publishers. He knows a lot more now than when he started out, so he is working on a special new class to help aspiring kidlit artists.

Together with fellow kidlit artists Will Terry and Lee White, they are creating a course designed to guide you through the process of illustrating a children’s book, from character design to finished book dummy.

It's called Children's Book Pro, and it's coming out soon!
