Yeti or not, the February prompt is here!
This month we are continuing to build on our Yeti theme with a prompt that is sure to whet your appetite: Yeti cooked with flare and secret spices as the aroma wafted through the air!
If you are new to our monthly contests, we added a new twist a couple months ago, where each prompt focuses on a different component of a children’s book.
In December, we created a Yeti character. In January, we designed a home for our friend Yeti. And this month, we are creating a spot illustration featuring our friend Yeti.
So what exactly is a spot illustration? Well, it depends on who you ask 😂
Usually spot illustrations are small, simple illustrations that highlight a moment in a story. Often they have broken edges, and little or no background. They are meant to break up large blocks of text and add visual interest to a page.
For the purposes of the contest, we are looking for these 2 key attributes:
an irregular border that does not go to the edge of the canvas
an element of storytelling
Here’s some examples from our podcast episode art:
If you want further clarification, you can check out the video from our last Critique Arena, starting around 1:06:55.
But don’t fret, it’s not an exact science. Just make sure to include the 2 key attributes we asked for and do your best!
Just to clarify: don't worry if you haven't submitted in the previous Yeti contests, you can still do this prompt! Just treat it as if it's a stand alone prompt🤓
So for example, if you don't already have a Yeti character, just make one. And by the same token, if you already made a Yeti character, but would like to change it, go right ahead!
We thought it would be fun to give you the option to create the makings of a children's book, but it's not a requirement😁
Ok friends, time to get to work!
