KEY TAKEAWAY
A good agent is your advocate. From giving you access to publishers and negotiating contracts to providing promotional help and business support, an agent can be an invaluable partner on your journey. They provide insight into the market, help you get a fair deal, and monitor communication with publishers. When chosen wisely, an agent is a priceless resource as you develop your career.
BIO
Kelly Sonnack always knew she wanted to live in a world of books. She began her career as a Life Sciences editor at an academic publisher, working on high-level textbooks and monographs. When the world of children’s books called her name, Kelly took a leap of faith to relaunch her career, becoming the front office assistant at a literary agency. This ignited her interest in agenting, and she began working in the field at Andrea Brown Literary Agency in 2009. Publishers Marketplace consistently ranks her as one of the top ten selling agents in the US. Kelly resides in San Diego, where she advocates for creators of children’s literature and has served on several boards, programs, and workshops.
