BIO
Mesa Schumacher is a freelance medical illustrator and science artist with 15 years of working experience. Originally from Seattle, WA and currently based in Fiji, Mesa has long been interested in both science and art. She received a bachelor’s degree in physical anthropology but discovered her passion for science illustration during a summer at an archaeological dig site in college. Mesa interned for museums and National Geographic and earned her master’s degree in medical illustration at Johns Hopkins Medical School.
Since then, she has worked for museums, aquariums, and zoos; illustrated surgical manuals, puzzles, and board games; and created 2D and 3D animations, archeological art, reconstructions, and more. Mesa loves using art to tell the story of science to people of all backgrounds and levels of understanding.
