What are your artist resolutions for 2020??

New year, new you! It’s that time of year when we look ahead and see what’s in store for 2020✨

In this episode, we share our plans for the new year as working illustrators. Maybe something here can help you chart your own goals for the year 😄

Here’s some of our top goals for 2020:

✅Cut down on social media. We all know why! It’s just too easy to get sucked into social media and waste away the day. We are going to try to consume it in a more mindful, deliberate way (Will says he’s not going to argue on Facebook anymore 😂). Hopefully that will free up more time for more meaningful practices, like pencil drawing.

✅Say no to things you don’t want to do, so you can say yes to things you do. Especially when you are starting out in your career, you often have to take projects that may not be exactly the thing you want to do. But if you can set yourself up right, you can hopefully do more of the jobs you want to do.

✅Declare idea bankruptcy. Get rid of all the old ideas hanging around! If you start to collect too many cool ideas, you can get overwhelmed and ultimately end up doing nothing with them. By declaring idea bankruptcy, you can weed out the ideas that probably won’t go anywhere, and prioritize what’s left so you can actually get projects done.

✅If you have proven sales, try to develop another revenue stream to supplement your primary source of income. You can’t always rely on an employer, even seemingly successful businesses can go under unexpectedly, like we’ve seen with recent layoffs at CollegeHumor. Possible avenues include selling your art online, kickstarting a book, setting up a Patreon, there’s so many options now!
